Specialist JLR engine rebuilds and repairs, with collection from Basildon, Pitsea and Laindon.
Don't Have Reg..?
Range Rover Garage is an independent JLR specialist dedicated to Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar engines. Basildon owners gain a practical main dealer alternative, with factory-trained engineers who diagnose, rebuild and replace Ingenium, TDV6, SDV6 and TDV8 engines fitted to Discovery, Defender, Velar, Evoque and Range Rover Sport models.
Our workshop is in Grays, a drive along the A13, so you can visit as a walk-in or book collection from across the SS13 to SS16 postcode areas, including Pitsea and Laindon, plus Wickford. Diagnostics and an itemised quote come first, and most rebuilds take 7 to 14 working days.
Note Any Slow Starting
If the engine cranks for longer than usual before firing, note roughly how many seconds it takes and whether it happens hot or cold. Extended cranking can point to fuel pressure, glow plug or sensor issues, helping us focus diagnostics.
A persistent knock under load, falling oil pressure or blue smoke on start-up usually indicate wear that only a Range Rover engine rebuild will fix.
Every engine is stripped, ultrasonically cleaned, machined and rebuilt with genuine OEM parts, then pressure-tested and run under load before sign-off at our workshop.
Slow starting, warning lights, misfires or limp mode on your Land Rover need accurate fault finding before any parts are ordered or replaced.
Our engineers pair dealer-level diagnostic equipment with hands-on testing, and same-day diagnostics are available on most bookings once your vehicle arrives.
If repair costs exceed your Defender's value, we supply and fit tested reconditioned engines matched carefully to its engine code.
Reconditioned units carry six months' warranty, and dealer-level cover of up to 24 months is also available.
With our Grays workshop a short drive along the A13, Basildon owners can call in as a walk-in, book an appointment or have us collect from home or work. Every vehicle is handled by factory-trained engineers who work only on Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar engine systems, using genuine or OEM-grade parts tested to manufacturer specifications. You approve an itemised quote before any work begins and receive direct updates from our team throughout, plus full warranty documentation on completion.
Collection Across Basildon and SS13–SS16
Our Services
Beyond rebuilds and replacements, our engineers repair specific engine faults on Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Evoque, Velar, Vogue, Discovery and Defender models for drivers across Basildon and south Essex.

A few seconds of rattle after a cold start is one of the most recognised Range Rover common faults, usually caused by timing chain stretch. We replace the chains, guides and tensioners together, helping protect the valves from damage.

Lost power on the A127, a whistle under acceleration or blue smoke from the exhaust can point to turbocharger failure. We check the oil feed, boost hoses and actuator before fitting a replacement, so the original fault is resolved.

Overheating, coolant disappearing between top-ups or a creamy deposit under the oil filler cap can all suggest head gasket failure. We pressure-test the cooling system and check the cylinder heads for warping and cracks before repairing the engine.

Not every engine fault calls for a rebuild. Oil leaks, injector problems, failed glow plugs and sticking EGR valves can often be repaired individually, keeping costs proportionate, and every engine is tested thoroughly before your vehicle is returned.

For higher-mileage Discovery, Freelander and older Range Rover models, a tested second-hand engine can be a practical, cost-effective option. We confirm full compatibility with your vehicle before fitting, and every engine swap includes one month's warranty as standard.

Earlier Land Rover engines with a timing belt need it renewed at the interval the manufacturer recommends. We carry out scheduled and emergency belt changes, helping you avoid the bent valves and damaged pistons a snapped belt can cause.
Explore More"Our Discovery 3 was taking ages to start on cold mornings. They found two failed glow plugs and a weak fuel lift pump, replaced them with genuine parts and showed us the test results before and after."
Lee Whittaker
"My Evoque's engine light came on near the Pitsea flyover and the car felt sluggish. Their diagnostics found a blocked crankcase breather rather than a turbo fault, and they explained the readings clearly before quoting."
Kayleigh Sutton
"My Jaguar XJ needed a turbo, and I appreciated being told the likely cause before any money was spent. The itemised quote was clear, and they called again when an extra seal needed replacing."
George Fenton
"We live in Laindon and use the Defender 110 for work, so collection had to fit around our schedule. They picked it up on a quiet morning and brought it back as agreed with the paperwork explained."
