Independent JLR engine rebuilds and diagnostics, with collection from Greenwich, Blackheath and Charlton.
Don't Have Reg..?
Range Rover Garage is an independent JLR specialist that works only on Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar engines. For Greenwich owners, we are a credible main dealer alternative. Our factory-trained engineers diagnose, rebuild and replace Ingenium, TDV6, SDV6 and TDV8 engines across Vogue, Velar, Discovery, Defender and Range Rover Sport models.
Our workshop is in Grays, Essex, across the river. We collect vehicles from across the SE10 postcode area, including East Greenwich and the Peninsula, plus Blackheath, Charlton and Woolwich. Every job starts with diagnostics and an itemised quote, and most rebuilds are completed within 7 to 14 working days.
Check Coolant After Cooling
Never open the coolant cap on a hot engine. Once the engine has fully cooled, check the expansion tank level. Note how often you have topped it up, because steady loss helps our engineers trace leaks or head gasket faults.
Low compression, a deep knock under acceleration or rising oil consumption usually indicate internal wear that only a full Range Rover engine rebuild will resolve.
We strip, ultrasonically clean, machine and rebuild each engine with genuine OEM parts. Each one is then pressure-tested and run under load before sign-off.
Coolant that keeps disappearing, overheating in slow traffic or a creamy residue under the oil cap are common signs of head gasket failure.
Our engineers pressure-test the cooling system and check the cylinder heads for warping and cracks. We complete the repair before wider engine damage develops.
When a rebuild isn't economical, we supply and fit tested reconditioned engines matched to your Defender's engine code.
Reconditioned units carry six months' warranty, and extended dealer-level cover of up to 24 months is also available.
Getting from Greenwich to our Grays workshop means a river crossing, which is the last thing you want with a misfiring or overheating engine. We collect your vehicle from home or work, complete diagnostics and repairs, and deliver it back once the job is signed off. Our engineers are factory-trained on Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar engine systems and fit genuine or OEM-grade parts. You approve an itemised quote before any work starts.
Collection Across Greenwich and SE10
Our Services
Alongside rebuilds and replacements, our engineers repair specific engine faults on Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Evoque, Velar, Vogue, Discovery and Defender models collected from across SE10.
A warning light near the Blackwall Tunnel approach, uneven idle or sudden limp mode can each have several possible causes. Our engineers read live data with dealer-level equipment and confirm the fault by hand. Same-day diagnostics are available on most bookings.

A metallic rattle for a few seconds after a cold start is one of the most familiar Range Rover common faults, and it usually means the chain has stretched. We replace the chains, guides and tensioners together to protect the valves.

Lost power on the A2, a whistle that rises with revs or blue smoke under load can point to a failing turbocharger. We check the oil feed, boost hoses and actuator first, so the replacement isn't damaged by the same fault.

Many engine faults can be repaired without a rebuild, including oil leaks, injector problems, sticking EGR valves and failed sensors. Targeted repairs keep costs proportionate, and every engine is tested thoroughly before your vehicle is returned to you.

For higher-mileage Discovery, Freelander and older Range Rover models, a tested second-hand engine can be the most practical way back on the road. We confirm full compatibility first, and every engine swap includes one month's warranty as standard.

Some earlier Land Rover engines use a timing belt that must be renewed at the manufacturer's recommended interval. We carry out scheduled and emergency belt changes, so you avoid the bent valves and piston damage a snapped belt can cause.

"My Range Rover Velar showed an engine fault approaching the Blackwall Tunnel and lost power. The diagnostics found a split boost hose rather than turbo failure. They showed me the readings before giving me a price."
Hannah Ashcroft
"With my Jaguar F-Pace, I wanted to understand the timing chain work before committing. They answered every question patiently, sent an itemised quote and phoned each time the job reached a new stage."
Daniel Kowalski
"I live near Greenwich Park and didn't want to risk the tunnel with an overheating Defender 110. They collected it from outside the house and returned it the following week, with the paperwork explained."
