Independent JLR engine rebuilds and repairs, with collection from Maldon, Heybridge and Great Totham.
Don't Have Reg..?
Range Rover Garage is an independent JLR specialist working only on Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar engines. Maldon owners gain a dependable main dealer alternative, with factory-trained engineers who diagnose, rebuild and replace Ingenium, TDV6, SDV6 and TDV8 engines across Defender, Discovery, Range Rover Sport, Velar and Evoque.
Our workshop is in Grays, in south Essex, so we arrange door-to-door collection from across the CM9 postcode area, including Heybridge, Woodham Mortimer and Great Totham, plus surrounding villages. Full diagnostics and an itemised quote come first, and most rebuilds are returned within 7 to 14 working days.
Mention Any Towing Use
If you regularly tow a boat, horsebox or trailer, mention it when booking your diagnostics. Heavy towing increases engine load and heat, which affects how our engineers interpret symptoms such as overheating, turbo wear or reduced power.
Heavy oil consumption, a knock under load or blue smoke when towing usually indicate internal wear that calls for a complete Defender engine rebuild.
Each engine is stripped, ultrasonically cleaned, machined and rebuilt with genuine OEM parts, then pressure-tested and run under load before return to you.
Towing and long country runs put extra strain on turbos, with lost power, whistling or blue smoke being the usual warning signs on Range Rovers.
We check the oil feed, boost hoses and actuator first, so your replacement turbocharger is not damaged by the same underlying fault.
When repair costs outweigh your vehicle's value, we supply and fit tested reconditioned engines matched precisely to your engine code.
Reconditioned units carry six months' warranty, with extended dealer-level cover of up to 24 months available.
Maldon is some distance from our Grays workshop, and narrow estuary lanes are no place to nurse a struggling engine. We collect your vehicle from home, the marina or your workplace, complete diagnostics and repairs, and return it once the job is signed off. Our engineers are factory-trained on Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar engine systems, fit genuine or OEM-grade parts and agree an itemised quote with you before any work begins, with direct updates from our team throughout.
Collection Across Maldon and CM9
Our Services
Beyond rebuilds and replacements, our engineers repair specific engine faults on Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Evoque, Velar, Vogue, Discovery and Defender models collected from across Maldon and the Dengie peninsula.
A warning light on the A414, hesitation while towing or sudden limp mode can each have several possible causes. Our engineers read live data with dealer-level equipment, confirm the fault physically before quoting, and offer same-day diagnostics on most bookings.

A rattle lasting a few seconds after a cold start is among the most familiar Range Rover common faults, usually caused by chain stretch. We replace chains, guides and tensioners together, helping prevent jumped timing and valve damage.

Overheating when towing, coolant vanishing between top-ups or a milky residue under the oil cap can all indicate head gasket failure. We pressure-test the cooling system and inspect the cylinder heads for warping and cracks before repairing the engine.

Not every engine fault calls for a rebuild. Oil leaks, injector problems, sticking EGR valves and failed sensors can often be repaired individually, keeping costs proportionate, and every engine is tested thoroughly before your vehicle is returned to you.

For high-mileage Discovery, Freelander and older Range Rover models that tow or work hard, a tested second-hand engine can be a practical choice. We confirm full compatibility first, and every engine swap includes one month's warranty as standard.

Some earlier Land Rover engines rely on a timing belt that must be renewed at the manufacturer's recommended interval. We carry out scheduled and emergency belt changes, helping you avoid the bent valves and piston damage a snapped belt causes.
Explore More"Our Defender 110 tows a boat trailer most weekends and began overheating on the A414. They found a weak cooling fan and a partially blocked radiator, replaced both with genuine parts and checked the head gasket."
Graham Seward
"My Discovery 5 went into limp mode while towing the horsebox near Great Totham. Their diagnostics found a sticking turbo vane mechanism rather than complete turbo failure, and they explained the readings before quoting."
Philippa Horne
"Living out past Heybridge, I relied on phone updates for my Jaguar F-Pace's head gasket repair. Each call was clear about progress and cost, and the final bill matched the written quote."
Nigel Bramley
"Getting the Range Rover Sport from Maldon to Grays and back would have taken most of a day. They collected it from our drive, kept us updated and returned it the following week as arranged."
