Specialist engine diagnostics, rebuilds and repairs, collected from Rayleigh.
Don't Have Reg..?
Range Rover Garage is an independent JLR specialist dedicated to Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar engines. Rayleigh owners gain a main dealer alternative staffed by factory-trained engineers who understand Ingenium, TDV6, SDV6 and TDV8 units, from Evoque and Velar to Discovery and Defender.
Work is carried out at our Grays workshop in Essex, and we collect from addresses across the SS6 postcode area, plus Hockley, Rawreth and Hullbridge. You'll receive diagnostics and an itemised quote before anything starts, with most rebuilds completed within 7 to 14 working days.
Watch Your Exhaust Smoke
Smoke colour offers an early clue. Blue suggests oil burning, white that persists after warm-up can indicate coolant entering the cylinders, and black often points to fuelling or turbo faults. Note it when booking.
When internal wear causes knocking, low oil pressure or failing compression, a full Land Rover engine rebuild restores reliability properly.
Engines are stripped, cleaned, precision-measured and rebuilt with genuine OEM parts, then tested under load before sign-off.
Overheating, coolant loss and creamy oil residue are common signs of a failing head gasket on Range Rover engines.
We check the cylinder heads for warping and cracks, then repair before the damage spreads to other engine components.
If repair costs exceed the engine's value, a tested reconditioned unit matched to your engine code is often the sensible route.
Supply and fitting includes warranty as standard, with dealer-level options of up to 24 months.
Getting specialist JLR engine work should be straightforward for Rayleigh owners. We arrange collection from your home or workplace, transport your vehicle to our Grays workshop and return it once every check is complete. Our engineers are factory-trained on Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar engine systems, and we fit genuine and OEM-grade parts tested to manufacturer specifications. You approve an itemised quote first, and our team keeps you updated directly throughout.

Our Services
Beyond rebuilds and replacements, our engineers handle a wide range of engine faults on Range Rover Sport, Evoque, Velar, Discovery and Defender models across the SS6 area.
Intermittent warning lights, hesitation and limp mode can have several possible causes. Our engineers read live data with dealer-level equipment, then confirm the fault physically before recommending any repair.

A rattle lasting a few seconds after a cold start is a well-known Range Rover common fault. Replacing the chain set early prevents it jumping timing and causing serious valve damage.
Explore More
A failing turbo often shows as lost boost, whistling under acceleration or oily residue in the intake. We investigate oil supply and boost control faults first, so the new turbo lasts.

Oil leaks, injector faults, EGR valve problems and sensor failures can often be fixed individually. Targeted repairs keep costs proportionate when your engine doesn't need a complete rebuild.

For high-mileage Discovery, Freelander and older Range Rover models, a tested second-hand engine can be a practical choice. We confirm compatibility first, and swaps include one month's warranty.

Belt-driven engines need replacement at manufacturer intervals, and a snapped belt can wreck valves and pistons. We carry out scheduled and emergency timing belt changes on earlier Land Rover engines.

"My Jaguar XE kept stalling at junctions in Hockley. The diagnostic check found a faulty camshaft sensor, which was a simple fix, and they explained the readings in plain English."

"I'm not mechanically minded, so I appreciated how patiently they explained the turbo issue on my Freelander 2. I got a written quote, then a call before any extra work was considered."

"Getting the Defender 130 to Grays myself wasn't practical with work. Collection from Hullbridge was booked within a couple of days, and it came back with the work clearly explained."
