Independent JLR engine rebuilds and repairs, with collection from Wickford, Runwell and Rawreth.
Don't Have Reg..?
Range Rover Garage is an independent JLR specialist dedicated to Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar engines. Wickford owners benefit from a practical main dealer alternative, with factory-trained engineers who diagnose, rebuild and replace Ingenium, TDV6, SDV6 and TDV8 engines fitted to Defender, Discovery, Evoque and Range Rover Sport models.
Our workshop is in Grays, Essex, within easy reach of Wickford, and we collect vehicles from across the SS11 and SS12 postcode areas, including Runwell and Rawreth, plus South Woodham Ferrers. Diagnostics and an itemised quote come first, and most rebuilds are completed within 7 to 14 working days.
Notice Any Unusual Smells
A sweet smell can point to leaking coolant, a burning odour to oil reaching hot exhaust parts, and a strong diesel smell to injector or fuel pipe leaks. Mention any smells when booking, and avoid driving if they persist.
A knock that worsens as revs rise, falling oil pressure or blue smoke at start-up usually mean your Land Rover engine needs a full rebuild.
Engines are stripped, ultrasonically cleaned, machined and rebuilt with genuine OEM parts, then pressure-tested and run under load before sign-off at our workshop.
A brief rattle on cold start is among the most familiar Range Rover common faults, usually caused by a stretched timing chain or worn guides.
We replace the chains, guides and tensioners as one set, and confirm a realistic timescale for your engine once diagnostics are complete.
If repair costs exceed your Defender's value, we supply and fit tested reconditioned engines matched carefully to its engine code.
Reconditioned units carry six months' warranty, and dealer-level cover of up to 24 months is also available.
Wickford sits within easy reach of our Grays workshop, so you can drop your vehicle in during opening hours or have us collect it from home or work. Every engine is handled by factory-trained engineers who work only on Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar engine systems, using genuine or OEM-grade parts tested to manufacturer specifications. You approve an itemised quote before any work begins, receive direct updates from our team and get full warranty documentation on completion.

Our Services
As well as rebuilds and replacements, our engineers repair specific engine faults on Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Evoque, Velar, Vogue, Discovery and Defender models across Wickford and south Essex.
Hesitation on the A130, a flashing warning light or sudden limp mode can stem from several different faults. Our engineers combine dealer-level equipment with physical checks to confirm the cause, and same-day diagnostics are available on most bookings.

A drop in pulling power, a whistle under acceleration or oil inside the intercooler pipework can all indicate turbo failure. We check the oil feed, boost leaks and actuator first, so the replacement is not damaged by the same fault.

White vapour after warm-up, coolant vanishing between top-ups or a creamy residue under the oil filler cap can signal head gasket failure. We pressure-test the cooling system and check the cylinder heads for warping before carrying out repairs.

Plenty of faults can be corrected without a rebuild. Oil leaks, injector issues, sticking EGR valves and failed sensors are often repaired individually, keeping costs proportionate, and every engine is tested thoroughly before it is returned to you.

For higher-mileage Discovery, Freelander and older Range Rover models, a tested second-hand engine can be the most economical way back on the road. We confirm full compatibility first, and every engine swap includes one month's warranty as standard.

Some earlier Land Rover engines use a timing belt rather than a chain, and it must be renewed at the manufacturer's interval. We carry out scheduled and emergency belt changes, helping prevent valve and piston damage a snapped belt causes.
Explore More"Our Discovery 5 had a rough idle and a ticking noise from the top of the engine. They found a collapsed hydraulic lifter, replaced it with a genuine part and explained how overdue oil changes had contributed to the wear."
Ian Thackeray
"My Range Rover Sport lost power on the A130 heading home to Runwell. The diagnostic check showed a cracked intercooler hose rather than turbo failure, and they explained the fault codes before giving me a price."
Rebecca Holt
"As someone who knows little about engines, I appreciated how the head gasket work on my Jaguar E-Pace was explained in plain terms. Every update was clear, and I was asked before any additional parts were ordered."
Michael Dunmore
"With three children and one car, getting the Defender 130 to Grays from South Woodham Ferrers wasn't realistic. Collection was booked for a morning that worked for us, and it came back on the agreed day."
